Born in Wichita, Kansas but raised in Massillon, Ohio, George Whitfield Jr. graduated from Youngstown State where he played under Jim Tressel. Whitfield spent his early career as an assistant coach at the University of Iowa. Prior to joining the Hawkeyes, he had a brief stint as a quarterback in the Arena Football League. After his time at Iowa he joined the San Diego Chargers as an intern with the quarterback coaching staff, and it was there that he mapped out his future and realized his dream of teaching fellow signalcallers how to be the best in the game. Since 2011, he has served as a core member of the renowned Elite 11 coaching staff. Over the past five years, Whitfield has coached and developed some of the biggest quarterbacks in the game, including four of the last five Heisman Trophy winners and the last three quarterbacks to go number one overall.
